Assistant Controller
Location: Central Post Rotterdam, The Netherlands
The Assistant Controller serves as a gatekeeper in the various reporting cycles and control processes of the business, ensuring timely and reliable financial reporting. This role is crucial for maintaining the integrity of financial data, supporting strategic decision-making, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
For our enthusiastic Finance team, we are immediately looking for a highly skilled and detail-oriented Financial Controller. The team consist of 5 controllers (3 assistants and 2 controller) and you will report directly to the department lead. To safeguard the quality and continuity of our services, we are striving for a multidisciplinary team. In this team tasks are rotated between the various team members. This also contributes to your own development within the different department expertise.
You are therefore a real team player, curious, proactive and flexible towards your colleagues. In this position you will be responsible for supervising the general ledger of several entities, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, and improving intercompany reconciliation processes. To perform this process excellently, you will be in close contact with your colleagues in the cross-Functional and cross-border Finance department. This role requires strong analytical skills, excellent communication abilities, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Your responsibilities are:
• Oversee the general ledger for multiple entities, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards;
• Review and validate balance sheet reconciliations on a monthly basis;
• Improve and streamline intercompany reconciliation processes;
• Conduct regular cleanups to ensure accurate financial records;
• Coordinate accounting activities across various functions, including the Global Business Services (GBS) team;
• Monitor execution of accounting tasks and develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in Finance;
• Ensure all financial activities comply with relevant regulatory requirements and internal policies;
• Prepare ad-hoc financial reports as required;
• Daily reconciliation and analysis of FX exposure position;
• Calculate and follow up on monthly accruals;
• Assist in and further take over the preparation of monthly management reporting pack;
• Develop and work with BI reports to provide insights and support decision-making processes;
• Support the internal and external audit processes for any queries, audit findings and follow up action items;
• Ad hoc preparation of analyses and query support;
• Back-up for tasks and responsibilities of the broader controlling team, including assist in budget preparation.

Who are you?
To excel in this role, you should demonstrate that you are well organized and that you have strong analytical skills and are able to work with a high degree of accuracy. You can work with a helicopter view, are able to switch between different tasks to oversee the entire process. This will make sure you can implement improvements where needed. You dare to show initiative and are able to deal with resistance.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher qualification in financial and management accounting;
- Proven experience in a similar role, with a strong understanding of general ledger functions and financial reporting;
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills;
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities;
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite;
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
